Music Center the Netherlands is the resource and promotion center for the professional music world. Its mission is to propagate and enhance the position of Dutch musical life, both nationally and internationally.

What we do

MCN focuses on those active in professional music. In one sentence our mission is: reinforcing the position of Dutch music (culture) nationally and internationally.
We do that in a variety of ways. For example by:

•    organizing events and information days
•    organizing workshops and trainings
•    publishing compact discs
•    attending international music conferences/congresses
•    collecting core data
•    or merely answering questions

Core Tasks

•    promotion
•    information
•    documentation
•    synchronization / coordination

Activities

renowned MCN-activities are, among others:
•    Pop Media Prize
•    Dutch Chamber Music Meeting
•    International Gaudeamus Music Week
•    Magazines  FRET en Jazz Bulletin
•    Muziekcafés and courses
•    Dutch Jazz Meeting
•    VPRO Boy Edgar Prize
•    Unsigned-label
•    Jeugd Aan Bod!
•    MusicXport+
•    Digital Pop Encyclopedie
•    Donemus Publishing House

MCN plays a coordinating and stimulating role within the national and international music arena by supporting, communicating, and most importantly, by initiating activities. Home to many different partners active in the music sector, MCN forms a unifying factor in the chain of demand and supply. Moreover, it also serves as a nucleus within the music sector.

From its unique vantage point, MCN targets activities, where necessary related to primary responsibilities of promotion (national and international) and information, in conjunction with education and reflection.

To provide current information and to preserve Dutch music history, MCN utilizes, maintains and is expanding its contemporary, jazz, and pop archives, developed by its predecessors. The evaluation and cataloguing of the collection is based on a balanced archival and documentation policy.

Given the size and complexity of the music field, MCN also envisions a key role for itself as a neutral, all-encompassing organization with an overview of the music sector, dedicated to fine-tuning and coordination.

MCN Music Cafes

On a regular basis MCN organizes Music Cafes: informal seminars for everyone in the music business, with discussions on topical and relevant musical subjects.
