Classical Karaoke?

05 May 2008

Saturday 24 May Ton Bruynèl is featured in one of the music cafes which MCN organizes this spring.

Already in 1959 Ton Bruynèl turned the combination of electronics and classical instruments into a fascinating richness of sound. Since then the interest in such music has only increased. What does a performance entail and which aspects require extra attention? Are the electronics an addition, a strait-jacket or a creative partner? How do a composer, musician and sound engineer work together? We examine the musically successful combination of score and soundtrack. Then we take a look at new developments. Ton Bruynèl already combined his music with other disciplines. Nowadays tape music, live electronics and multimedia are increasingly merging.

In the morning programme three experts will give a workshop: Annelie de Man, Jorge Isaac and Jan Panis. After lunch composers and other experts will present their work and ideas. This will be followed by a forum discussion and drinks. In the exhibition room there are examples of compositions for instruments and electronics to watch and listen to.
