Richard Rijnvos and his Union Square Dance
Richard Rijnvos is a composer who concentrates on the realisation of works that are part of larger series. So it is a big event when he completes a cycle.
The Union Square Dance, the orchestral dance cycle Uptown|Downtown - started in 1996 - has reached its euphoric conclusion.
The last movement of this urban panorama in six movements, dedicated to city life in Manhattan, will be premiered on 11 April 2009 in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw (Netherlands), by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by James Gaffigan.
Richard Rijnvos has proved himself a passionate advocate of contemporary orchestral repertoire, as not only Times Square Dance, but also NYConcerto - both part of Uptown|Downtown - are award winning pieces.
