Birmingham & Louis Andriessen: 11-15 March 2010
This year's Frontiers+ Festival at the Birmingham Conservatoire is dedicated to the music of pioneering Dutch composer Louis Andriessen.
Louis Andriessen has been at the very forefront of contemporary music for nearly 40 years, creating a distinctive style which draws upon influences from minimalism and jazz to Stravinsky and modernism, often delivered with the power of a rock band.
Performances during the week come from an array of distinguished musicians, including the Smith Quartet, Monica Germino, Michaela Riener and Decibel (who will be in residence), alongside performances by students and tutors from Birmingham Conservatoire.
Louis Andriessen will be in residence, attending performances, working with student performers, giving masterclasses to composition students and receiving an Honorary Doctorate from the Birmingham City University.
