Klanken aan 't IJ
From August 29 until September 7 2008, the bank of the river IJ (near Amsterdam Central Station) will be dominated by the sound art festival Klanken aan ‘t IJ.
International artists will combine visual arts and technology to create extraordinary sound art installations. Everyday items such as bottles, pans and shoes will be converted into amazing works of art and give rise to a whole new sound experience.
Amidst the city hustle and bustle, the Klanken aan ’t IJ Festival shows how special sound really is. Rediscover sound during the Klanken aan ’t IJ Festival.
During this festival five sound installations by international artists and one performance can be visited in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Central Library Amsterdam (OBA) and Pakhuis de Zwijger.
Background information
Since the opening of the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam Gaudeamus has presented various soundinstallations in the Atrium. At last year’s Uitmarkt (the annual festival marking the kick-off of Amsterdam’s cultural season), the sound installation Krachtgever, a big installation by Peter Bosch and Simone Simons, in the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ attracted a lot of attention.
Music Center the Netherlands has decided to take it a step further this year and organise a festival centring around five sound installations and one performance of international artists.
Festival Klanken aan 't IJ is initiated by Music Center the Netherlands.
The festival is sponsored by:
