VPRO/Boy Edgar Prijs 2010 awarded to Anton Goudsmit
The VPRO/Boy Edgar Prijs 2010 has been awarded to guitarist, composer and band leader Anton Goudsmit. The award, Holland's most prestigious jazz-award, consists of a sculpture by Dutch artist Jan Wolkers and a sum of € 12.500.-.
On Monday April 26, the award was presented to Anton Goudsmit during a special concert at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam. VPRO Radio has broadcasted the entire concert (from 20.00 till 24.00 hours) nationally on Radio 6, and internationally by means of a live audio/video stream via vprojazzlive.radio6.nl.
From May 2010 until January 2011 Anton Goudsmit will be touring the Netherlands with his band The Ploctones.

“The jury’s decision is based on its appreciation of the infectious, humorous and always unpredictable character of [his] music.”
“Anton always knows how to engage his listeners, no matter their age. He’s a musician who makes a creative contribution in the most diverse musical situations, and at the same time is always himself: distinctive, energetic and inventive.”
“He’s versatile: moves between pop, jazz, improvised music and grooving funk.” “A real ‘band man’ – he senses exactly what jazz and improvised music is about (or should be about), namely playing TOGETHER, where communication and inventiveness between band members is more important than a soloist’s performance.”
